Formatted contents note	Resumen: en torno al año 1837, un calavera (como modismo de la época: un muchacho arrojado, libertino si se quiere, fuera del molde, que causa problemas), un húsar, sigue su ideal de vida; un amor absoluto y entregado, que caiga rendido a sus pies. Y cree encontrarlo en los ojos de una mujer de buena sociedad, de esa que convierte en pasatiempo enamorar con su mirada. La vida se le va, a este muchacho, persiguiendo a aquella mujer, con su galanura y sus desventuras, ligando a otra en el intertanto, solo porque es un alma libre, o un alma huérfana como lo plantea otro de sus personajes. Se trata de una sucesión de escenas que van transcurriendo durante varios años, en los que Abelardo Manríquez, el húsar, e Inés, la muchacha, se encuentran en distintos contextos solo para chocar y fulminarse mutuamente, como dos polos eléctricos que, iguales, extrañamente se atraen, solo para luego notar lo que son y repelerse en refriega. Es una historia romántica, de amor, pero de un amor trunco por la falta de practicidad del protagonista o lo elevado de sus ideales y, por otro lado, por los yerros que va cometiendo en su vida.
